I’m proud to announce that The Untouchables Retrospective has partnered with Arrow Video to support and help produce its limited-edition Blu-ray release of The Scarface Mob. Consulting on this edition has given us the chance to share our research and archival collection in a release devoted to the production that started it all.
Directed by Phil Karlson and starring Robert Stack and Neville Brand, The Scarface Mob grew out of the original two-part television pilot. Its collision of underworld brutality and federal determination laid the dramatic foundation for the series that followed. Arrow’s edition presents the film on Blu-ray in 1080p HD, with supplemental material exploring the film and its history. Explore the release at Arrow Video.
Our contributions include a print of the 35mm print of the theatrical trailer, original posters, lobby cards and publicity photographs for the disc’s archival gallery, along with comprehensive notes on The Untouchables credited to Dan Lynch and me in the illustrated collector’s booklet. The edition also includes essays by David Cairns and Philip Kemp, writing by Barry Forshaw, and new artwork by Jennifer Dionisio. See the complete edition contents.
For me, seeing my father’s name alongside mine carries particular meaning. Dan Lynch began collecting material on The Untouchables in 1961. His years of research eventually became Chicago Stories, the unpublished manuscript that forms the foundation of this Retrospective. Bringing that work to a physical release is a gratifying continuation of something he began more than six decades ago. This partnership gives some of those materials a new audience — and gives longtime admirers another way to revisit the origins of the series. Due to the project’s tight production deadlines, we were unfortunately not able to contribute more. Importantly, this release does not include the original broadcast print of The Untouchables Parts 1 & 2.
My thanks to Arrow Video for inviting us to contribute, and to everyone who has followed and supported The Untouchables Retrospective. Your continued interest helps keep this work alive.
